A Hell

A Hell

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

A hell! Oh, but what is a hell! Whispering secrets into an ear that won’t be able to tell.

"

A hell to only I know,

a hell in which

to speak and to grow.

A hell beyond my pondering,

in my mind

in all my wonderings.

It makes me curl,

clenching my gut,

making me wish

I could fall in a rut.

But a rut would be better

than agonizing pain

that tortures repeatedly

over and over again.

A hell.

A hell!

Oh, but what is a hell!

Whispering secrets into an ear

that won’t be able to tell.

The grain of each sound

ringing through my head

pierces like a knife

that makes me wish

I were dead.

The pain of each movement,

sharp and clear,

is hard to listen to

as I curl up here.

The cold sweat

all over my skin

drenches me in shivers

and invites Death in.

I wish it would end,

and I know it shall.

Regardless, Death impends

and gives flushed skin its pall.
