They ask about you

They ask about you

A Poem by DrD

When they ask, and ask they do,

“How can anyone love as much and long

As your words describe,”

I don’t know how to answer.

You were not my complete life, I know,

But life is not complete without you.

Should I describe to them the little things?

The funny pony tail bounce you had

Your spontaneous bursts of excitement

Over presents and surprises?

How you tilted your face to let my kisses in

Or how your eyes described rapture?

Maybe I should recount the things you said

“Hold me like you think I’m leaving

Kiss me like I’ve just returned.”

“If you will love me forever

Could you make it last a little longer?”

And how you taught me to believe it all

But no, I cannot put you into words

That would steal your many dimensions

They must simply look at me

And see how well I wear your love

And I will be that testimony

Of what we made of each other

Wow. This is truly a powerful emotion. Beautiful words, and often it is the little things that make someone so great. Honest and melodic, great job.

Love is such a powerful emotion, we do indeed "wear it".
Doesn't take long for it to be seen, the memories, wishes, disasters, hope...all bundled and merged into our own flesh.
Your writing is potent and I enjoy reading :)

Ah just lovely, soft and beautiful, very loving..
I truly felt the emotion in this piece.
You always paint the most beautiful images with your words :}

I think this is real, and I can relate .. So many wish they had a relationship like this ..
I don't see any exaggerations here .. just a poetic heart of love .

Nice ... Jasmine

This makes me feel all warm and gooey inside, like a hot sticky bun in the morning.
Love the lines where you recount the things she says, 'kiss me like I've just returned', such an elegantly poignant write, a real testament to true love.

yeh well it still applies ryt?
It is magical how we get to know someone so intimately that words cannot describe the beauty that resides in that person.

They must simply look at me
And see how well I wear your love

Those two lines, for me, sum up the totality of this poem, as well as being so elegantly penned. What a beautiful testimony to one you love.

You're sweet, Lori. Thank you so much.
You hit on a great point in the last line. The poetry had some comfortable flow, but the philosophy was such a gift and a great lesson.
We do actually become something of a new being when love changes us.
What a fitting testament to your love, but even more to her love that helped to make you the man you are today.
Great write!

And thank you, David, for seeing the message between the lines.
You were not my complete life, I know,
But life is not complete without you.

The way this is worded is frank and honest, probably one of my favourite lines from a poem I have read recently. I also like "how you tilted your head to let my kisses in". Well written and engaging, good job as always :)

Thank you, Harry. I appreciate you.
Nicely put! I interpret here that "in love" feeling that cannot really be discribed but only felt. Very true! So many of us long to hold on to this feeling forever, but as we grow older and more cynical, we start believing that it is no longer possible. I have felt what it is to be "in love" but like most I have not been able to hold on to it. Unlikely to do perhaps, but personally, I haven't given up entirely! Perhaps if we could hold on to our innocence, the "in love" feeling would last...

It's kinda' like replacing "living" with simply "loving" and knowing that it's enough. Thanks, Will.. read more
