The tour

The tour

A Poem by DrD

We drank Guinness at Rody Bolands

With mugs lifted as high as our voices

As we sang Molly Malone with the crowd

And in the fine mist of early morning

We walked the streets of Dublin

To the hostel with the sunken mattress

That you said loved us because it pulled us together.

The landscape poured past the train window

And you leaned against me, your head on my chest

“Will you love me forever?” you asked softly

“Do I have a choice?” I replied

“No,” you smiled, pressing your finger over my lips

“Just love me every day.  If that becomes forever, good.”

And we were silent then, secure in our need and hope

Remember what happened in the dining car?

We ate and laughed and toasted Lambrusco

And when it came time to pay the check

The man with the short, white beard

Took it from my hand and smiled

“Permit me,” he said and we never knew why

But it was evidence that we were God’s favorites

And we were, you know . . . .

In a time when we shared the pulse of love

And thought all else was folly

Our communion was in laughter and whispers

And while walking an empty hand was unbearable

When you pulled my arm around you

And forever was as certain as the sun

Thanks BR
I have a great fondness for poems where the author speaks directly to his /or her muse. And whether the poem is good or bad there is always a palpable honesty, that must be respected. Dr, this was a good poem. Thank you, for sharing this imagery

Some memories in life are precious. It is the best kind love when you can ask eachother "remember when?" and smile. I liked this very much, Doc. It was very easy to get put in the middle of the scene and feel the calm understanding between two people. Nice work.

Thank you for your visit and kind words, Courtney.
When one loves as deeply as this, it is that which shall never fade! You write your sentiments in a way that makes the reader feel as if one can see you as you walked, as you sat and laughed and toasted Lambrusco, as you whispered while you were certain it would surely be just the two of you "forever"!
It was a divine tour of love, filled with a landscape of commitment and intimacy!

I'm glad you liked this. Thanks, Robin.
It's always special when you write, as are you doc. Everyone should have this kind of love during their lifetime, you were one lucky man to have had such a muse.
