A cove at Portofino

A cove at Portofino

A Poem by DrD

There was a cove near Portofino

Where neither tide or storm disturbed

And we would huddle before a fire

And watch the moody Mediterranean

“I sometimes wonder,” you said

Secure within my arms, pressed against my chest

“Were we made for this moment

Or was this moment made for us?”

And the answer was lost beneath the tent of night

Where sparks like ghosts of fireflies trying to be stars

Lifted from the fire and glistened against your eyes

“Are we selfish?” you asked again

“Seeing that there is nothing more than ourselves?”

And with that I knew the answer well and said,

“There is nothing more than you

And without you there would be nothing.”

There is a cove near Portofino

Where reverence dulls the tide to whispers

And ashes stain the grit and grains of sand

As testimony to a time that was

When moments were made for lovers

And lovers made moments remembered

Where they loved selfishly, ignoring life itself

In honor of something far greater

A beautiful poem Dr.D! You have captured here what I think of as one of those precious moments suspended beyond the confines of time. A moment too short for measure perhaps, yet one that is never forgotten. This kind of selfish love does make the world dissappear, and I agree that by doing so, something far greater is honoured. Awesome work!

This is wonderfully written and full of whimsical charm and romance. This is how all love should and can feel at its greatest- the world nothing more than two individuals locked together in a timewarp, the world at a standstill around them. How beautiful to examine the places they had been, when the world begins turning again.

Thanks, bob. You are always welcome here.
And we were there ..
Holding love forever and after
Blessed by the union
Now kept by the memories
And we were there
Till all else ceased to be
Holding Love forever, and after ..

Thanks for reminding me of Love ... Jazz

XX...... :)
I got tingles all over reading this...
I was contemplating the idea that a person never really "needs" anouther person. Not really. However, when we choose to let ourselves need anouther we are so open to the reward of know "something far greater". The cost is knowing pain far gerater as well...
What a profound write!
