NOW AND THEN

NOW AND THEN

A Poem by DrD

How many seasons

Have chased each other

Across the paths of my life?

While a step grew slower

And my hair decided

To imitate winter.

Young people started

Calling me “Sir”

And I spent more time remembering.

The nights of shouts

And haughty toasts

Have faded into hot chocolate

On winter nights

Standing by a window.

The bicycle is stored away

With the dumbbells

And running shoes.

I now rest from all that.

Everything has changed

Except you.

I close my eyes for your return

And you are vibrant

Head tilted

In long ribbons of laughter

More beautiful than

All my lost yesterdays

And I am blessed beyond all tomorrows.

What a beautiful way to explain the loss of time
memory bound to the innocence only a youthful mind can relive...great piece

No, my new book is not poetry. Poets all died of starvation decades ago.
