burning the last bridge

burning the last bridge

A Poem by Eyudo

Burning the
last bridge

On the small island you live your life
In the morning many bridges surround
But your actions act as a scythe
And by night they all collapse down

You refuse the refuges
And help and guidance
You just couldn't see
Why you needed alliance

So you cut down the bridges
One by one
And built a tall wall with ridges
Till it was all around and blocked the sun

So you go into isolation
Which causes depravation
Which leads to annihilation
And only one bridge is left for someone to come

The island is dying
And others stop trying
They just let you have your reign
And let you be insane

So your defenses rise
Which was no surprise
You feel you no longer need outside supplies
A thought that lies

So you set up torches
And set the bridge to scorches
The last bridge is to incinerate
Which you will eviscerate

So cut off from the land
You made your last stand
You eventually just fall
And no one can get to your call

So you burned the final bridge
Which you needed just a smidge
Like cutting the last thread
It left you emotionally dead

Burned the bridge with no way to sooth
And now the light gets real smooth
You fade and no one knows it
They all cared
But had no bridge in which to show it
