Volcano

Volcano

A Poem by Fairieswithscales

How does it feel to be you? I say
The girl looks at me
Expressionless
There is a volcano next to her
She walks to it
Sticks her hand inside
And pulls out a rock of lava
She swallows it
It burns her from the inside out
Skin from bone
Bone from skin
Her skeleton shines through
She does not cry
She does not smile either
Her face is stone
How heavy she must feel, I think
With a face like that
With a body like that
Burning alive, burning dead
You can’t tell
She reaches into her stomach
Pulls out the rock
And offers it to me
But I don’t need to take it
To know the pain that she does
I feel it everyday inside me
A boiling pot of water
Inside out
It hurts
It’s heavy
And I carve my face out of stone
Not into a smile
Just stiff enough to not be tears
She is not alone
I am not alone
I reach towards her
Try to touch her hand
But when I meet it
Glass stands between us
And I can’t get past the mirror
