blue-jay

blue-jay

A Poem by Jonathan P

He'll steal your time and undermine your work. He'll wait silently, hidden in shadows until the perfect opportunity materializes, and he'll pull the rug from beneath your feet, and you'll stumble and perhaps you'll fall flat on your face, and as you make your descent, he will chuckle as he reaches for his spoils that were well within your reach.
I once saw a blue-jay steal food from a squirrel. A brief chase took place, but the bird escaped easily. It perched calmly on a branch twelve feet above the squirrel who scurried about before disappearing into the woods.
