Possibilities

Possibilities

A Poem by Forgotten

Let me drop a hypothesis upon your minds,
For the idea of life beyond our world is something of fascination,
Each creature born today no matter how big nor small,
Began life as a single celled organism,
How we got here today is a mystery no doubt,
For the cell we derived from ceases to exist,
People say we evolved from apes and monkeys,
However that is proven to be wrong,
They are but a sub species of a creature we once were,
Taking a more primitive stance,
We developed tools and the means to survive,
No longer did we need to adapt to the world we lived in,
Maybe that's why evolution for us has ceased.

Now the talk of aliens is something I have frequently discussed,
Each time getting closer to an answer I'm happy with,
Some say it's science fiction nothing more than folly,
However it is possible we are aliens to our own planet,
We came after dinosaurs the most primitive of creature,
And it was proven that birds and reptiles were the descendants to dinosaurs,
Sharing DNA closer than any other creatures,
However it was believed an asteroid plummeted to earth,
Isn't there a chance we began life there that day,
A single celled organism clinging to a rock,
We may have become the sentient beings we know today,
From a cell that previously lived elsewhere.

Of course there are many who doubt evolution,
Marking is as something impossible,
Yet without God we would not have had the ability to question,
How was the earth really created, thus science was born,
We have discovered much,
Medicine, biology, astrology and much more,
All thanks to the belief of a deity.
Now I know this seems like rambling but hang on with me for a moment more,
Why is the idea of aliens so strange to many still?
We weren't always sentient beings,
We weren't just suddenly born from clay,
We are made of atoms, and DNA structure,
Each unique and none the same,
So I guess I'm asking this,
Why do we still doubt the possibility of life beyond our planet?

John another great piece!

I for one need to start off with I am a believer. I am spiritual not religious. I believe all living organisms are divine by the very source of their DNA structure.

I have never understand why religion, science, reincarnation and alien life can't co-exist. Everyone simply needs to learn to get along. I do not see a conflict between Creation and Evolution just a story as old as time- the conflict of Cane and Abel. Purely sibling rivalry. Perhaps the mother ship should return and school them both.

More like a stream of consciousness here, lots of food for thought, intriguing read. I do agree with the theory, organism growing from the rock for some people! Muchly enjoyed. ;-)

I am glad you said it wasn't a poem J-P. I learned a lot and it was thought provoking as a discussion piece.

A lot of good questions brought to life in the poem. I study religion all my life. I learn to trust in karma. Every bad deed I pay for in double. I have met some wild and strange people in my life. They taught me. Life is short. Enjoy because could be the only ride you shall get. I hope we go to a better place? I see only a ending. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

i am sure you are aware that we are the only species on earth which has genetically altered dna? it is a fact! we we engineered by ancient aliens (it is widely believed) who used us to do their hard labor....yes, a race of slaves......that is why we find it so easy to mistreat and enslave one another....any way, you can say i am full of beans, but it is all there to research on the web....excellent write!!!! love a good thought provoker!

Interesting. I don't think I've ever met anyone who has doubted the possibility of life beyond our planet. Possibility is not limited to the world we know so doubting the possibility of anything is foolish. We can't prove the impossibilities of the universe if we don't know what is possible. To know what is possible, we must first know the universe.
I hope I don't sound redundant. You have touched on a very thought provoking piece. Though, I wouldn't call it a poem. It is so much more than that.
Thank you for sharing.
