Dreamer

Dreamer

A Poem by Frankie Cosby

Just a Dreamer

Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing this right

Has my fear and doubt pushed me to fight

Still I set sail across the sea of unforgiving green

Unknown paths long to be traveled within me

Trials begin suddenly the destruction sinks our hope

Yet a familiar feeling amidst this hellish plight

To surrender only our pain never our might

Onward through months I begin to feel the fear

For a single mistake and my men would set in, that is clear

Constant as the changing tides do they stalk my lead

Silence of betrayal to finally plant me like the seed

No longer shall I give room for these insidious thoughts

At last the wood meets sand and my mind halts

Carefully alert for this jungle has no known end

Forward beyond my dull years of exploring the new

A boy dreams a world of chances and sees it appear true

I took destiny by the hand across seas we washed ashore

Giving generations after me a new land and much, much, more

If any wish to follow my trail,
May the sun shine upon you
may the wind kiss upon your sail

may you leave behind only a story on which your life is the tale, may you never know sickness or be unwell,
for crossing the sea is a monstrous hell.

Unclaimed is the promise of a strength to tame the west, now close your eyes and take rest,

for tomorrow begins a new day, the start of the world born a new, search your heart, you know it to be true
Who knew I was,
Just a dreamer, too.
