A Day's Work

A Day's Work

A Poem by Freder Fredersen (aka Grady)
"

Struggle and overcome!

"

Alarm clock rings! There’s the world at my throat!

I smile.

Profanely panting! Challenging my pride.

Begging me to tangle up. Abort cause!

I spit a prayer into the air. It’s gone.

Telephone rings! There’s demons in my ear.

I cringe.

Obscenely screaming! Ramming my resolve.

Tempting me to mangle truth. Reveal my claws.

I whisper peace; my nerves release. Their gone.

Church bell rings. There’s an angel in my face.

I rise.

Gracefully lying! Contorting morals.

Begging me to judge the All. Commence fall!

I sing a hymn of honest love. I’m gone.

Night birds sing. There’s a feeling of warm bliss.

I yawn.

Artfully glowing. Bleaching my darkness.

Lifting me to starry planes. I am whole.

I breathe a sigh, I’m by and by. I sleep.

Alarm clock rings! There’s the world at my throat!

I smile.

Usually I'm not much taken to prose, but this I liked. There's a certain bluntness about your writing that makes it very reachable. The idea of the world at your throat, in your ears, in your face! I feel the same way from day to day until I finally come home and slip away into sweet dreams where heroes are real and the world is less antagonistic. I like the sentiment of this. This fight on with a smile mentality reminds me of a very old friend of mine.
