God Answered me

God Answered me

A Poem by Freder Fredersen (aka Grady)
"

My profession of faith.

"

Bathed in the air,

I breathed deeply the sea,

As the stars burned their pure light

So deeply into me.

Smelling the sound;

I listened to see.

I said a small prayer,

And God answered me.

Not a deep voice of booming thunderous power;

A tiny still whisper that grew as a praise song.

And I, and the stars and the air and the sea,

All empowered; all humbled; all newly set free,

Sang along and along and along and along.

Lyrics were laughter;

The tune was mystery,

The beat was a pulse;

Life's rhythm in me.

Tracing my steps and

Dancing the sky;

I felt for a taste,

And God heard my cry.

Not sick sad sobs of fading humanoid flickers;

A single child's tear that grew into devotion.

And I, with my love; with my pain; with my glee,

All fortified; all crumbled; all made purity,

Have spoken and spoken and spoken snd spoken.

Spirit and spirit;

No strange wizardry.

Just friends on a walk;

Creator and me.

Tilling the strife;

Planting the ease.

I said a small prayer,

And God answered me.

Now I have ears to hear,

And I have eyes to see.

Brilliant, just brilliant. You've somehow managed to write a poem about God without sucking up to him =D

Honestly, you sum up the religious experience in a way which is neither pretentious nor simplistic, you make spiritualism seem fresh and original. You start with the naturalistic imagery and slowly transform into this buzzing and rapturous lyricism. This is wonderful stuff.

well done, I'm reminded of a song from early church memory

I come to the garden alone
while the dew is still on the roses
and the voice I hear
calling on my ear
none other has ever known

and he walks with me
and he talks with me
and he tells me I am his own
and the joy we share
as we tarry there
none other has ever known.

All human senses are present in the first stanza. That's powerful for a start. The lines of the succeeding stanzas are even more stronger as they give life to the influx of thoughts. Excellent job!

This is a beautiful poem! You captured the essence of God and expressed it in pure light! I enjoyed the way you presented the voice of God as almost silent a whisper. Well Done!
