A Poem by Gaia Octavia

Sometimes,
I stop amidst all the beauty
and wonder of this world,
and I think to myself:
people are terrible.

This actually made me smile because it reminded me of one of my favorite cartoon strips! It was Peanuts. Lucy, in her psychiatrist for 5 cents was stating: "I don't have a problem with humanity... It is people I hate!" Thank you for submitting to my contest!

Sometimes, your thoughts are right on target, dear poet.
More than natural disasters, more than all diseases, more than fierce encounters with wild animals and sea creatures, are the tragedies inflicted upon humans by other humans.

Amusing. It displays reality in a gist. I couldn't agree more. People struggle not to be terrible but whatever they do, they still are. The opening suggested a pensive mood and it surprisingly ended with humor. Bravo! and have a nice day ahead! :-)

Me too. Me too.....

Btw, the majority of people are terrible. The world has changed so much. It's unreal.

Awesome write.

Thought-provoking, certainly, with that unexpected last line. Extremely well done with so few well-chosen words.

! Yeah, me too...

There's that poem by Leigh Hunt, "Abou Ben Adhem" - it reads so smooth and waxes with the warm gloss of a nice sturdy candle, sure: but in spite of its' glow, I have always, always wrestled with it. Ofcourse, it is a 'good christian' kind of poem with it's anthro-humanistic high ground, and the crux of "Abou Ben Adhem" certainly might be something to aspire for; yet the problem with it is exactly this: your thought. and I quote (as if I need to):
"Sometimes,
I stop amidst all the beauty
And wonder of this world
And I think to myself:
People are terrible."
G.O., I think you have written the quintessential antithesis of Hunt's "Abou Ben Adhem". And proven more deft and succinct both in form and fluency.
Personally, I really like the juxtaposition of adjectives, and how the contrast jumps at you so unexpectedly in the last line. A bit of wry humour in that. And god knows, such a measure of truth. While a person may be one kettle of fish, "people" are yet another...
Very cool write. I like it a lot.
