Dusted off for the festive season.....Over priced, over rated, and coming to you in the very near future.....
Christmas is coming
the Easter eggs are out,
" book your summer holidays "
travel agents shout.
Buy a leather three piece
get a foot stool free,
everywhere you turn
there's a place to buy a tree.
Inflatable santas,
reindeer with red noses,
florists selling wreaths
and dead expensive roses.
Supermarkets crammed
trolleys overflowing,
bank accounts empty
overdrafts growing.
Parties in the office
inhibitions dumped,
grown men crying
secretary's humped.
Pantomime season
" behind you" shout the kids,
" Z “ list stars
whose careers have hit the skids.
Joseph, Mary, Jesus
why's it their big day
aren't they just characters
in the primary school play ?
Christmas is coming
we'll pay for it next year,
kids getting way to much
nothing now too dear.
I love your no-nonsense description of the typical holidays steeped in materialistic obsession. This is why I do NOT participate in the madness . . . no decorations, never had a tree, etc. What makes your message especially sardonic is your final stanza . . . very few people have the nerve to mock the "real reason for the season"!! I love your sassy ways & this really hits my funny bone. Good rhyme & rhythm thru-out! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good morning. You did well ( or not !!) to stumble across this poem.

How can any get stumbled in such smooth piece?! Did any yet?! I guess no.....You're heartedly welcome!☺
The rampant consumerism at this time of year never ceases to amaze. And just a day ago i even saw a 'Back to School' sale on stationary items for school kids that only just finished school for the year two days prior! No wonder the banks love giving out those credit cards!
Excellently rhymed this one with a sharp wit coursing throughout. Fine work.
And best wishes for Christmas to you and yours.

Thank you Doodley. Hope Santa is good to you and your
OHHHHHHHHHH.. i didn't want to read this.. but of course, had to. It's so horribly true, because,, the real meaning of Christmas of giving, sharing, doing unto others and all that has steamed out the window as if in bad taste!
Your wit and naughtiness is so 'bang' on', Gee - horribly, wonderfully so.. metre perfect (tho is too early for me to properly judge - caffeine hasn't hit yet) but, as always you hit the nail on the proverbial head and try - in your own way to make a moot point with a lot of tongue in cheek fun attached
Happy Everything to you and yours ladies.. hope you enjoy the heart of i: , warmth, fun, and, most of all- love. A visit to church would be quite lovely too, especially if small children are there to sing in shrieky tones without a clue to the words.. pick noses, combe hair with fingers, drop hymn books on floor .. fidget yet more... and all the other real life thingies.. :)

Then taking a good friends son Xmas shopping (as her hubby has slithered off ) so that he can by his mum a ring from Pandora, bless him. Then back home for drinks with the good lady and three of her friends (who have invited themselves along, I'll look like some old pervy pimp 50+ harem) this our Christmas " do "
Here's hoping Santa brings all that you wish for and that you and yours have a great festive period.

I agree my friend. The meaning of Christmas is forgotten. Few remember why we celebrate Christmas. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

You capture so well and with humor the sad state of affairs of not just Christmas but every other 'festival' manipulated by the advertisers and the sellers to the point of brainwashing people into only considering the material world.
Interesting poem, fun but thought provoking. I especially liked the first stanza because it felt like a marketing blitz that didn't care what it was particularly addressing as long as they were frantically getting you to buy something, anything. The others all seem to focus on Christmas - maybe a little more imagery from other seasons sprinkled throughout would make it even better. Overall though, it's really good. Also the last line, I think it should be "too dear" not "to."
