INVISIBLE - Prologue

INVISIBLE - Prologue

A Chapter by Prime
"

Do you know how it feels to want to be invisible?

"
The bright pink roses dance with the cool breeze of the late afternoon. And the clear waters of the pond beside ripple at each drop of tear that flows through my eyes.
I am alone, in the Halcyon Circle, the sanctuary-physique area of our Academy that marks the zone of seclusion.
There they go again. No, they did it again, the bullies. I wonder what had driven them to hate me this much. Is it my attitude, or is it how I look? I wonder why.
I stare at the reflection on the pond. Who would even like a lonely face with swollen red eyes covered by big weird glasses, and a set of teeth embedded with ugly silver braces? Yes, I am a nerd. But I wonder why it is quite a big deal to be slightly different from other people when the cause is your uneven vision and dental defect fixed by braces yet make speech sound horrible. I admit I have dark skin, but does color defy one's state of being?
I am not intelligent, I'm just a good reader, and that makes me more unique, negatively... because unlike other nerds with lots of knowledge compressed in their brains, I have only half of those, or maybe it hadn't even gone to that level.
I just do satisfactorily with my academics. Well, I think what's important is being literate, numerate, and wise.
But I guess that's not enough. Sometimes, I just wish I was invisible...
I am Mary Garnette Shaw. I am sixteen. I am dealing hard with the second semester of Chemical Engineering (Bachelor's Degree) Year One, in Preston Academy.
This is my struggle to be invisible - to my school, to my family, to my love...

My Dad once told me that he is a Renaissance Man. I asked him what that was. He said it is someone who knows a little bit about everything.

I commented saying, I suppose that is better than someone who knows everything about nothing.

He smirked. :) And yes, I understand the desire to be invisible - so to the point that in my dreams I can touch the 3rd finger on my right hand and vanish from sight.

You might be interested in watching a movie about a struggling nerd who learns the power of telekinesis. It's called, "Zapped !" and you can find more information about it HERE,

If you model your story along the same line, where he uses his power of invisibility to not only get even with bullies but to catch schoolgirls in their intimates, likely you will have quite a bit of a story to write and an even greater following of readers, me included. :)

I'm checking it out now. As for realism in your stories, yes, I think this is important.
