Morning in the Eye

Morning in the Eye

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

this morning is the placid eye

in the center of a sudden torrent,

and I stand within the womb

            professing symbolic resistance

abandon yesterday     forget

all of the tomorrows swaying

like Bluebells on a withering vine

brace for the closing walls carrying fragments

of lost time     pieces of paradise

spun like silk from the marrow of bantling stars

and you  - standing in a doorway - crooked smile

remaining while all else is spirited away

this morning is the solitary summit

of something lost     broken

like so many jagged seashells bleached

            by an unforgiving sun

the kettle is boiling     shrieking as the Harpyiai,

but I am bare-footed on a disappearing shore

sifting through mountains of white sand

            seeking something whole

Well, It is satisfyingly delightful to stumble across a "new" (to me) poet and encounter such a fresh and original approach and touch. These little nuggets (I read a few) are superbly expressive and a concisely artful conscription into a new reality. I feel as if I found a road map with a whole new set of open highways, unknown roads and sequestered lanes that I never even knew existed! Most enjoyable. Thank you for writing here!

I'm so glad, my friend!
Neither the love of yesterday not the dream of tomorrow can equal the bliss in the cup of tea in the hand in this moment...
I feel the desire for balance in these images, a dawn of realization that something was not right, and now it will take some time to find the rhythm again, by "seeking something whole..."

Beautiful, Sarah.

Thank you so much, my friend!
For it is in the now where we stand and there is tea to be had. For moments to retain their simplistic beauty we must banish the before and the after and luxuriate in the moment even as we seek something more while reality stands at the ready in the corner. This is philosophically challenging but that is what I see in the beauty of your images and words.

Aahh, yes...luxuriate in the moment...I must learn to do that :)
I'm always amazed by your astounding use of dazzling imagery, but there's something special in this piece. I can't put my finger on it, but altogether it's nothing short of brilliant. Amazing work Sarah!

Thank you so much, Keith...I'm humbled...
Wonderful use of metaphors. If I may analyze--the summer is closing(love is leaving or left) and it leaves as a storm and you are left in wreckage to figure it all out. Great write, Sarah.

It is always a pleasure I look forward to.
Tomorrow is promised to no one so don't let the past intrude and consume the present, instead, savor and enjoy it!

Very nicely worded, an enjoyable read !

Thank you so much, Tom!
Very introspective piece Friday, leave the old behind, and live for today, that's what I tell myself each morning, a new dawn doesn't always bring that insight to fruition though....love your metaphors as always, you are the master.
