Sounds of Making

Sounds of Making

A Poem by gombeggar
"

An expression about the tutoring of a young sage in the old ways of magic

"

As the river runs

Thus the water clears

The air it lays out its breath

Making all the earthen wares so clean and sheer

Of waters deep and skies in change

Of fires hot and seas of deep range

It is all of the Making, he said

It is the auspices of the Elementals

He said in a wise and fashion so gentle

The Making is of the old ways, he breathed

It was to his student that he told this

It was of his teachings that brewed from the mist

For the youth needed his old ways learnings

Alone he did this for many a year

Alone the Making was done true of light and fear

That was how it was done

Scribblings and carvings

In artifacts and archings

To remember the songs that spell out all that there is

Woodchips and mandrake

Cuttlefish and sausages

Pyrite and more

Pinecones, green leaves

And mud mixed with sand from the shores

And dry things

All this and more

Cobble stones and thistle herbs

Quartz bits and rainwaters

Subtle bits for sure

Lightning and windcrests

Thunder that spreads

From the sky more

Cyclones and duststorms

Rainstorms that pour

Weather galore

Sweeping and shaking

Landfalls earthquaking

And even more

Then dew in the air

Ozone to spare

In silence there is more

Of elder rings of trees

Of other forestry greens

The Making shows in all

All deer in tracks

And scuffling of racks

The world endures and calls

Of times and tides

The lunar change and other signs

The sight of Making in all

Of dropping hands and silence

For a moment to contemplate

On the Making and how its sounds do rise and fall

To his apprentice he did turn

In hopes the youth did indeed learn

Of the sounds of Making

…More lessons would follow

I am a writer of many things. I have been for many a year. Writing is a form of art along with so many other kinds. Art in all it's forms is a magic unto itself...

The attached pic is from Marie Anzalone's personal collection of works...give her great praise in all her art

I like the notion of this and it reminds me a little of Carlos Castaneda :) Beautifully composed...
To me it works well, elements infused and being a Pagan, it particularly draws me in.
Written with warmth and passion.
All knowledge must come from the source itself, if only we listen that will guide us, it is there to find, practice, attune to :)
Beautiful work :)

Time to give beggar some props, you have a decent poetic ear, I could hear this as impressionistic, as being in and above the scenary, as the experience being more heady than the goal.

Enchanting...
It reminds me of a novel I read : The Barbed Coil.
I like this poem and I am shelving it because I am going to use it one day in the future for my novel.

thanks much again
I recently watched a brilliant Ted Talk about endangered cultures... and what gifts their individual cultural memories, stories, legends, and perspectives have for the rest of us. Our religions get so caught up in spreading "the true word of God" that the rich diversity is lost... often it is only through retellings, in quiet sacred space, that any cultural memory is preserved. Yet the great oral traditions are alive and well. I had wanted, a few years ago, to put together a boiok for the family, collecting stories of favorite memories and family holiday traditions form our generation, and no-one was interested. It was very sad for me.

u might also wanna take notes of their ways too
acts of learning, doing, come with the pain of shedding our old skin, to see and feel with new eyes and scales,to snake through the grass across the creek,to lay up on a rock ,warm sun kisses, thoughts of dark eyed ,dark haired, long braids shaken loose,
a herd of human maidens bathing in a pool of light, surrounded by water,.....
Well done
