Dead Reality

Written 8/18/06. Written for a contest. A line from a poem was picked and we had to write something inspired by it. "In a dead reality, in a world of dark dreams" - was the line.

I live in a dead reality
And a world of dark dreams
Where everything is lies and secrets
Dwelling in the pain of what once was yesterday
A place where tomorrow never looks better
And today is already at a loss
Where the undead walk upon graves of their past
Because that's what society tells them to do
Bury the hurt and sorrows of yesterday
To be forced to wear a mask over your face
Otherwise you're seen as a weakness if you show any emotion
My dark; dead world of reality dreams
Is not what it is because of how I've made it
It's that way because I'm not emotional of my past, present
Or future, only the fact of how they tell you to handle yourself
Being forced..
To wear..
That mask, only truly blindsides you, not others

We all hate those masks
despise them

but its easy to see through them

Yes i know ........ but a mask is a lie
and it sucks when someone lies

It is a lie, but to me it is a different kind of lie. It's never meant to hurt anyone, in fact in a lot of cases it's there so that no one gets hurt.

i do not believe in white lies
you must be honest
just learning someone is hiding
it crushes you
because you honestly had no mask on yourself

yes, we are told to hide our emotions, or at least that was the socially acceptable thing to do... people are judgemental... great response to the line you were given

Yes people are very judgmental, but over the years I've come to not give a darn what others say or think. If they don't like something I'm saying or doing, well then bye lol. They don't have to like me, I don't really care lol.

It's taken many years to get that policy lol.
Though I guess I've always kind of had it, cause I've always tried not to care about those kinds of things. It's just that now the policy is a lot stronger lol.

Yes it does make us vulnerable, but part of the problem is still how society treats people with mental illness, sadly.

It's not something I usually write about (actually this is the only poem I've written about this issue) but when I read that line for the contest, all I could think of was how society tells you how to act and whats 'normal'.
