Pit of Memories

Written 1/19/15 This is about my past always trying to creep back into my present.

I can see
Your claws reaching for me
Faintly in the distance
I try to move
But frozen in fear
I let you take me over
(Hello old friend...)
You love to drag me down
Down deep
Into this pit of memories
I've tried so hard
To leave you
Behind
(Why won't you let me go...)
But you hold onto me
Squeezing so tightly
Your claws dig into me
Deeper... Every time
Day and night
You whisper things in my ear
Just little reminders
To keep me in check
"You're not good enough.. Not pretty enough..
Lose a little more.. One more cut won't hurt..
You screwed up again.."
The thoughts swirl in my head
Sometimes I want to scream out
STOP!

.
.
One day
These demons
Will no longer have
A hold on me

The mind can certainly be a torturous trap. It likes to tease and when it feels you get too much of a head-start on a new path where you can clear it all away, it will snatch you right back into place. I've been enslaved by my own mind many times.
