The King of Nowhere Land

The King of Nowhere Land

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

nowhere to go

"

Banished prince of Queen's throne,

He has nowhere to call home.

Left with just shoes and attire,

His troubled head can't retire.

Breeze at his back, no steps to trace;

A boy walks with a man's face.

Such times kill--- he has to do something,

Keenly contemplating his new found nothings.

Bitter heart in hand,  he surveys the land,

Free of rule--- all his to command.

Standing tall, he tested all,

Already to low to fear a fall.

Never accepting a corner of bread,

Much to proud for the gesture.

Walking fearless where most don't tread.

Survive--- giving himself the lecture.

Never expecting his reign to last...

Self proclaimed King--- sips from his empty glass.

I love this piece. It speaks to an unspeakable struggle and a hole so deep the light hides behind the sardonic smile of hope. I shall always remember this line:

a boy walks with a man's face

That line makes my heart ache.

Thank you for the lovely review.
This piece rings of the mean streets and homelessness indeed, been there, fought for survival in them and moved on up thanks to angels who hovered by. A brilliant descriptive work my poet, I pray all is well and you've also moved on up. Those streets can be pretty horrific indeed. Your a gifted writer.

Great pIece you written..but nothing reads truer than experience & heart ! Became a man early! Sounds like you have done well PH! Life is not always what we chose when we are young..but by golly..you learn to rise if you wish to !
do you know the masai tribes in Africa..as a rite of passage..send their male youths (13 or 15 can't remember) out to forage on their own for a year? ( ;

Its my honor to present it to you.
self-respect in the face of such a lonely place to wander. Might as well like a cowboy would, and giddyup cause theres not much to lose and the will of a young man is too tough to hang his head and lay down.

You are welcome:)
This is an outstanding piece - the contrast of this homeless, proud king... very affecting.

"a boy walks with a man's face..." - I keep coming back to this line; I see the weary world in this boy's eyes...

Excellent!

Thank you, for those wonderful words!
I really like the analogy you drew here between this throneless, wandering young King and your own experience as a teenager.
Very well thought through and described.
This is a great piece, Travis. :)

Thank you, Rogue, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You continue to humble me.
Wow.... The way you wrote this made such am impact. This happens all of a sudden, and could happen to anyone. It's so easy that way. This was sad, but beautifully written!

Well done.

Always a pleasure!
Wow, what an eloquent depiction of living on the streets. This is so commonplace now, could happen overnight to just about anyone with the way society is going now. Glad you were able to put your pain into such a creative format....sad, yet beautifully written, good one my friend!
