Help Me Remember

Help Me Remember

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

This is my first piece ever written, in Grammar school. It is 1 of 3 of my pieces that are most dear to me. They are the only works of mine that was physically read by my father before his passing.

"
Father,
Help me remember,
Your firm but gentle touch.
Help me remember,
Why you loved me so much.
Help me remember,
When in the dark, how the moonlight blanketed your face.
Help me remember,
When at dinnertime, I always saved your space.
Help me remember,
How you once laced my shoes.
Help me remember,
How you once told me, "always repay your do's."
Help me remember,
The protection of your strong voice.
Help me remember,
How you once told me, "a man makes his own choice."
Help me remember,
How you were there in my time of need.
Help me remember,
How, when you left, my heart started to bleed.

Author's Note

Thank you for reading. Sorry my return isn't more spectacular, but these pieces are particularly important to me due to the time of year. Posting the other 2 as well. I will be posting new material soon after. For any confused readers, this piece is about my biological father, he passed away when I was 2 years of age. The man who I called father, married my mother some years later. I am lucky and grateful to have encountered him, and I am honored to have called him dad.

Thank you, I'm again appreciative of your wonderful words.
It is a very good poem. I'm a Grandfather now. I learn the hard way to be kinder and understanding. Being a parent is hard. You must learn. I like the purpose of the poem. Sometime we can lose our place. Father and son should be friends. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you, dear friend.
This time of year, we miss our loved ones who have passed even more than other times of year. The pain of losing your father is strong in this write. The rhyming is good. The repetition of "help me remember" is very effective. Good work. Lydi**
