Of Metal & Butterfly Wings

Of Metal & Butterfly Wings

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

My cousin was struck and dragged by a drunk driver 2 months ago. Thankfully she is still with us and making a full recovery. This is dedicated to her.

"
A beauty rooted in her agenda
The impending consequence
Of another's severe lapse in judgment
Pitted two strangers squarely in Destiny's hand

And the pointed winds of fate
Hurled speeding metal and misfortune
On the boozed breath of the unthinking
Into the blind lap of one so unaware

Frailty is swept neath a shrieking metallic avalanche
A brutal marriage of metal and butterfly wings
Delicate skin and bone stagger, but fight
Neath heated metal and burning rubber

Butterfly wings flutter faintly
A life walks an edge its never seen
And a spirit drowning in pain
Struggles with incessant questions of why

Metal broke bone, rubber burned finespun skin
And still, in the widening shadow of the crow
A butterfly ate fire and will live to tell of its taste
Impossible survival, tattoo'd on butterfly wings

This is fierce in wording and subject. You paint a brutal picture of the suffering inflicted on a fragile body my the weapon of an uncaring jerk. If people would only think about the damage they can inflict from stupidity. Hope your cousin makes a full recovery both in body and mind.

I am very glad that your cousin is on the mend. Your pen captures the horror of the event with stark and clear imagery … the soft vulnerable faces the cold, hard and unbendable. Bravo.

Thank you, Pryde your thoughts mean a lot to me here.
the metaphor is amazing here, the steel of the car, the soft fluttering of the wings of the butterfly, the collision...and the one we think wouldn't does survive.
nicely done Travis...and so glad she survived and will get better.

Such a poignantly sad story Travis, thankfully she thrives on, an eloquent write, heart rendering...
