The Science of Us

The Science of Us

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

When objects attract.

"
traveling through this universe
along paths completely our own
entrenched by the lure of lightspeed,
finding stillness to be wanting
each of us...
barely breathing, barely caring

drunk on the momentum of youth
and testing divine classification
we were gods parading as angels
entertaining a human audience
with insatiable devilish intent
barely breathing, barely caring

the inevitable clash...
unstoppable/immovable cheek to cheek
each poised to be victorious
and at the precipice, we both fell
rapt in magnetic chemistry
not really breathing, not really caring

timelines shatter in unison
we push/pull at one another...
gravity and fate's inertia find their footing
and in the bewildering arms of chaos
we come to rest, in an orbit of us
finally breathing, finally caring...
finally living

Author's Note

Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
Not sure how I feel bout this. It kinda just started itself (on a very late night)... credit to the movie: Passengers, for the inspiration.

Sorry if the metaphors are a bit murky... wanted to try to marry science, love, and poetry. I hope it all translates well.

Though You spoke of science, but I felt the spiritual and ethereal bonds deeply through Your words, passion seemed at its highest in some points, in Your first two verses I felt the journey of one individual, finding meanings of life and grow with his being mentally and spiritually, the third it's the moment of falling in Love, the passionate sensation of it, the last is the bliss, of living the harmony of the mind, heart and spirit all together inside one's inner and in Love.

I really enjoyed this! Had the pleasure of rereading it several times just to appreciate it. It struggles to find hope and feeling in a universe seemingly bound to different principles. Still, there is a force that breaks and shatters things every once in a while, and in this small reprieve we find a little bit of it, a little "breathing". Thank you sir!

Well you have certainly achieved your aim to marry science, love and poetry. I love the whole chemistry of this piece, the romance of it and how it is conveyed most poetically. Very nicely done. Thank you.

You are welcome Travis. Have a great day.

It translates better than well my friend. I like the way youthful exuberance and indestructability come into play and when that lust dust all settles out, there is still me and thee standing on a different precipice, practicing a different kind of love and companionship. I really do love your writing, it fires me up!!

I think this is beautiful Travis...the science of couple...the matching of our human race. I was just saying yesterday that I believe we are made in pairs...no mater if you believe in religion or science or a bit of both. You have expressed it so much better than I. Mysterious and spectacular! Into my library it goes.

This reminds me so much of myself. Even the authors notes. I never know where I am going when the idea hits so I just write and see where my mind takes me. I love the esoteric reference and the use of the universe as a stage. There is great romance in the idea of space and traveling as eternal beings through it with someone you love. We were gods once... That is all I can think of when I read this. Thank you for sharing this great piece. You have earned a new follower.
