Perfect Redneck DayA Poem by Holly Mason
A redneck day I surely miss'
Living in this northern bliss. The creek is down the road. Smells like questionable old mold. Still I hop right in, no problem. Tadpoles swimming, I will stop them. Drop a piece of day old crust. Watch them swarm and turn it to dust. Throw my line out over the water. Small splash then just watch the bobber. Up and down something has bitten. Pull it up, so sunshine smitten. Just a small fish no reason to keep. God, I love this awful creek. Two bumps slowly stirring the surface. Gator eyes watching this human circus. Goes on all day, I will not leave. For when is my next redneck reprieve ? Sun going down ,hop in my truck. Smokes as I start it ,in the mud I am stuck. Grab onto the door handle, gonna slam the gas. Over the bumpy ,muddy terrain ,I go fast. Stop by a friends to help skin a hog. I wouldn't even eat this ,I think of this job. So with this beautiful red neck summer moment, I would die with the sunset for atonement. To top it all off to make me feel accomplished, I did it all at the fancy golf course, people so pompous.
