God Doesn't Do Credit Checks

God Doesn't Do Credit Checks

A Poem by Holly Mason

Bad credit, good credit, all can apply.
Last earthly light, leaves your human eye.
Resting in peace you approach the gate.
Will you get in or is hell your fate?
Let us see what you have done.
The angels checklist has begun,
honest and true-check
good husband/wife-check
wonderful parent-check
good to fellow man-check
broke-does not apply
so when the application is filled out,
Remember what life was really about.
The people we love, raise and learn to cherish.
That's it for God's checklist when we perish.

I believe as the Bible says, that all our "good works" are like filthy rags in the sight of God. But we are saved by grace through faith and that not of ourselves but it is a free gift of God lest any man should boast. Faith produces works and not the other way around...it is good to be good...as we understand goodness...yet the scripture says, "There is a way that seems right to a man and the end thereof is destruction." We must simply accept God's gift in faith and trust in His mercy to have forgiveness. We must forgive others their faults as well because we are all in the same proverbial boat. All under the umbrella of Amazing Grace. I enjoyed the read here. Thanks for sharing.

You are a gifted writer with a sensitive, searching heart. There is something in many of us that yearns for and hope's for God's acceptance. We try to 'straighten up' but we all fall short and are overcome by our tendency to fear, judge, get impatient, try to control, lie etc. The good news is that God loves us and that Jesus, the innocent and perfect one, paid the penalty that our sins deserve. When we believe that, and ask Him to save us from hell, He does! He then makes us his children and gives us the keys to the Kingdom. I can't work my way to heaven but I can believe that He loved me enough to suffer and die for me!

Exactly... it is not going to church that guarantees your place in heaven, it is your actions toward fellow man that earns you the way to the pearly gates.

My pleasure.
"Last earthly light, leaves your human eye."
What a great line. From it I get a sense that death is nothing to fear and the transition is rather peaceful.

Smart writing! The rhymes are strong and create a good rhythm. The repetitions of "Check" are fun, they create different layers of interpretations... Well done!

Beautiful! I love the rhyme and meter, but what's much more important to me is the content, it's so full of truth and honesty, not to mention this is something I relate to seriously in what's going on in my life now! Bang on, great write!
