Where are you, god?

Where are you, god?

A Poem by Hanna01
"

For everyone who sometimes thinks "Why does he let this happen?"

"

Where are you, god?

Do you still remember

1939, the first September

How could it ever come so far?

Why didn’t you prevent it?

The blood, the hurt, the war.

Could you hear the screams last night?

See the blood and smell the stench of fight?

Again, another one of your children died

The mother will never smile again

Do you feel sorry or are you too pride?

Do you remember the people that were killed in thy name?

Who do you think shall be therefore to blame?

The church, the bible, the faith?

Thousands of dissenters still wait for justice

Or do you prefer the murders to grace

How can you look away

Even though people daily pray

Millions die of hunger, thirst

Murder, weakness, violence

Diseases, guns and hate " the worst

I have to wonder if you even exist

Because I can’t see a reason for you to resist

To help the people your said to love

Do it before it’s too late

Or take you back your snow white dove

Honestly, I'm not sure what to think of this yet. Some parts I really like while others are just... cringe. So, please leave me a review to clear my doubts!

I love how you have blended the spiritual and political aspects of one’s being! I do believe the Second World War could have been prevented and seeing from an Indian perspective, where India was still a British colony there was little India could do.

Anyways, a very well written piece :)

You express a universal concern with your passionate words. Most people find it a mystery as to why God does not intervene. Your work is honest and direct.

If you are interested, I wrote an article about God and suffering, you might find some answers in it. It's called "Why does God Allow Suffering - Will it End? "

I wish you peace.

Thank you, I will check it out some time!
last line, second stanza...should be "proud"--

this poem raises an age old question...why? Why does a benevolent, caring, loving and forgiving God allow such wasted loss of life?
the senseless savagery...

a song i think you would really appreciate is Joan Baez singing Dylan's "God on our Side"
it''s on line...and has similar undertones to this poem.

This poem has such strong theme...

Philosophy 101... even Philosophy from the Curb. Belief is a personal choice. AND a personal strength. For some it empowers hope - hope for a future and even hope for a change.

Ever notice how it's man that tells us that God said to kill in God's name - but not God? And who DOES the killing? God seems to seldom kill anyone but man on the otherhand... and the "my God is Greater than..." syndrome has been prevalent since the beginnings of most societies.
