(Don't) Believe Me

(Don't) Believe Me

A Poem by J Walsh

Well, God is just a creation of man
and you can’t run as fast as you can

How do we know the sun is a ball
if we can’t even look at it at all?

I’m sitting here with phlegm in my throat
and I’m looking back over all I’ve wrote

Just believe me when I say:
don’t believe in what anyone says

‘Cos I don’t know what the Hell I’m supposed to do
and neither do you.

There’s memories all hidden in drawers
manifesting on the bedroom floor

And they’re telling me to remember the past
and I wish I could, but I just can’t be assed

‘Cos I’ve got to keep my mind completely free
for conversations with me.

You know that every new life born
is just another one we’re due to mourn

We’re all being destroyed by time
so, excuse me, for taking what’s mine

Should we believe chaos or an ancient book?
In fate or luck?

You could try to live the way you think
or put it all in someone else’s hands,
but if you try to plan your own things
things will go and make other plans.

I don’t know what the Hell to do
and, face it, neither do you.

Just believe me when I say:
don’t believe in what anyone says.

Author's Note

J Walsh
This is sooo first draft! I wrote this at 3am last night after spending ages creating music and realising I needed words to throw into it. Poetically, it's basic (and a bit crap) but it does fit into the music. Any part people like/hate/don't care about?
