The Death of Wonder Woman

The Death of Wonder Woman

A Poem by Sarah Flanigan

An 80 year-old woman lies on a hospital bed.
Her wrist is broken,
her memories were stolen years ago.
Her fragile voice is ever so faint,
"Goodbye sweetie, grandma loves you."
And that's the last thing Wonder Woman ever said.
With those five simple words, she slipped into eternity.
The strongest, bravest woman I have ever known was gone.
The world should have stopped spinning at that moment,
but of course, it didn't, it never does,
not even for important people like my grandmother.
Wonder Woman is dead, and a piece of me went with her.

I'm an introverted bookworm. I tend to spend my days drinking far too much coffee and playing my ukulele too loudly. Life is strange and surreal, but also beautiful somehow. more..
