I remember you.

I remember you.

A Poem by Relic

Michael Cheval - DREAM CATCHER - Oil on Canvas

From what I remember

You were once as sweet
as a warm summer wind
that brushed my cheek
under plum trees.

And with enough power
I'd have stood the world
on its head
to prolong your kisses -
those little miracles
ignorant of time
and vaporous years.

Yes, you were sweet
but like all mirages
you faded
making me - in the end
a mere shadow
crossing your cheek
when all your infatuation expired.

I am wiser now,
with a lesson learned.

At least once in life,
we will all be
forgotten
and discarded

like the pit of a devoured plum.

Relic
~The jilted lover, naive to the game of love has become bitter. He has learned the hard way that infatuation is a fickle sensation that can dissolve as fast as it was precipitated...whether in himself or in this case, the object of his affections. Love should not be assumed. Love takes time.~

Love is fickle and those of us who think we have found it in one lustful night fall prey to foolish desires. Then we realize that we are cast out with the sodomites when our infatuation is no longer reciprocated. Like the shadow you refer to, we are gone before the sun sets. The gray in our lives becomes black and we loose our way. But alas, love is hard to find for a reason, because it is worth having. It is worth the search for that one true love that we so desire to spend the rest of our lives with. Sometimes, however, we don't recognize it when it is right in front of us.

Excellent write my friend. I enjoyed this very much.

I love your imagery in this piece and the enjambment that keeps the piece flowing at a slow thought-provoking pace. My favorite lines:

And I,

in the end,
was nothing more
than a quick shadow

that crossed your cheek

Gave me chills! Such beautiful words that show such pain underneath.

Excellent write on the rite of restless hearts. Love the plum, cause like little Jack Horner we keep sticking our fingers in the pie. Tom

and a stormy sky it can be, when it becomes overcast and all the sunlight has gone. i love the gentle simplicity of this write, although it speaks volumes, it is so easy to grasp your intent here. awesome work.

sad reality isn't it? Love has many faces and it takes time to find the real one... Heartbreaks are unbearable but i think its manageable through time and understanding...

this is a great reflection on a person goes through everytime a person falls in love...

Thank you Ric.
Ok, so you have me here. This is a great, heartfelt write, showing the depth of your love and subsequent loss of this lover, and the impact on your life/soul.....as all good writers do, you take the reader on an emotionally charged journey.....with great words...the disappointment and hurt in the penultimate stanza show this, and then you hit us with the final stanza....
"And you discarded me like the pit of a devoured plum"....
Great write...

I love how you've captured the similarities of Nature and Nuture...

Yes, you were sweet once,
but like all mirages
you disappeared
behind the clouds
and faded.

It's amazing how quickly the hallmarks of a beautiful and compasisonate heart can vanish in an instant......but love never dies... it lays dormant waiting for that special one.....

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom... :O)

Rejection in love is painful and hard but you expressed this quite beautifully. The words were bittersweet. I think that the change in love's demeanor sometimes can happen so quickly.

Wow, I really connected with this poem! You capture the essence of heart ache and spun it into beautiful words. The imagery you've included makes the words come alive. Well done, I very much enjoyed reading this!
