Writers Cafe - Once in a while, they still come back.

A Poem by Relic

Once in a while,
as though pulled in by some desire
or force,
some decide to take a ride back
to Writers Cafe.

It's not always a long visit, yet
they still come back
as though returning to their old home.

"I remember Robbie,
or Marie, or Frieda P," they might say.

They may recall this place in a way
one might remember
flags that lined porches
or trees on each side of the street where they lived.
But still, they remember this place.
Their names are still on the mailbox.

For better or worse, this is a community.

Some have moved on, as they should.
And some are still here, pruning nouns
or mowing verbs.

Some have even died.

The street may look different.
Trees may be bigger.
And old friends may be gone for good.

But on this block,
you're never turned away
no matter how long you've been gone
or how many times you move on.

There will always be opportunities to write about
the sun, the rain, a train...

Writers Cafe
on this block, once in a while,
they still come back.

Well, one of the new ones here. So far it doesn't look like the other sites I've been on.. Wattpad and writing.com.. Grrrrrr everything is about paying for getting advertised and the a*s kissing..

Don't care for that stuff, sooo after some exploration I decided on this site

We'll see how it goes.

A very colorful portrayal of the Cafe and the fact that it's always changing, even though there have been writers here for years... i agree though, they come and go and that's okay... life is complex and we have other obligations....but somehow there is a magnet to return to the Cafe, and yes, we are an amazing community! Thank you for sharing!

... they still come back...'
Yes, yes, yes. I do. We do. I cannot help being not just nostalgic, but plaintive, about how things were here and in my life.
My emotions have a 'home' here. It is a heartfelt and wonderful tribute that speaks for the heart of every writer here.

Hi Tim, I have been in and out of here over the last few weeks. Something pulled me back, just like your poem said. There's something enduring here. There was a lot of drama years ago, but now there's social media for that stuff I suppose. What is distilled here now is a more mature vibe if you will. Makes me want to become active again--to a point. Hope you are doing well.

I can relate. I've been a part of the site since 2006 and have returned intermittently ever since. The poem genuinely captures the feelings of nostalgia and community.

Relic,

Though that which I choose to write about and upon often causes me to go (shall we say) unnoticed, or noticed but shied away from, here and there, I have truly come to enjoy this WritersCafe, and have returned again to offer a bit more support of your words penned much more than quite well ...

Hey Relic, remember me? It's been a hella long time. You probably remember me as LA Lorena. Lost all access to that account, but I am back. Good to see you here still. So many memories of laughs shared!

I can't remember how many years it has been but it is still home. I don't know all the new neighbors yet. There are many faces I fondly remember and lots of old stories. Lovely to meander here.

This is true, a community indeed...I find I write more then desired then leave this block to visit a new one, But Something in life comes to me when my eyes and brain are least expecting it, and It always brings me right back to the book, which always brings me here... Writers cafe drive
