On A Dusty Shelf

On A Dusty Shelf

A Poem by *~Imperfectly Me~*

On a Dusty Shelf

Here I am

Open my cover

See how torn I am

My binding is breaking

I'm held together by my own will

Now see the scratched out words

And the ripped out pages

The Words are my scars,

missing pages are the memories

too painful for me to read

But if you ask about them...

I promise I will tell

I will not hide my personal Hell

I am an open book now read me!

Find out who I am

No question will go unanswered

Nothing will I hide...

I am a book open in front of you

Read me and know me

I will not lie

For here in you hands I will abide

I lay here broken

Asking for nothing

Just notice I'm held together by my will

I do not wish to be mended...

For I don't know how

Not even Duct tape can fix me

For my nothing will stick

Please Hold me gently

read my every word

Please read me

and Know me...

Don't leave me be

This was cool! I imagined one of my grandfathers old books talking to me about philosophy, while i held it in my hands!
I really liked how, not only was it the book talking, but yourself as well.
I shall always treasure this book, and hold it's words dear.
GReat Job! :)

Excellent concept here....

"The words are my SCARS
Missing pages are my memories"

I like this a lot :-)

Sometimes we all need someone to know who we are. I love that you compare yourself to a book in this poem. Wonderful write!

Interesting view point and I love how you relate torn pages and unwanted memories. Truly a view into a book were ink has sunk through several pages while others have never seen ink.

A wonderful piece. I loved the metaphor of the dusty tome with it's willingness to be read. Most people are just not an open book. A very well put together poem. Thank you so much for sharing.

Well, I would read you if I could, but it's kinda hard for one book to read another haha. So though I will not ask questions, I will be here for you to talk to, to let out your pain on, and I will help as best as I can to clean you up a bit, make you look more new and not so worn.
