A Poem by Mark
"

Modern American

"
These moments are pierced by jagged light
and thunder rolls slowly behind them.

Why am I in Georgia...
when you are not?

The storm allows the night to hang
preventing the sun to make day.

My day looks bleak
from this Walmart parking lot.

Cheerful golden arches beckon
like a gingerbread house.

Oh, I am not well and
Walmart doesn't open for hours.

Wonderfully written. And the song chosen just feels so right while reading this.
''Why am I in Georgia...
when you are not?''
Simple yet so powerful, these two lines.

Lines I really loved -
My day looks bleak
from this Walmart parking lot.
Cheerful golden arches beckon
like a gingerbread house.
Oh, I am not well and
Walmart doesn't open for hours.

heeehee... ya you said it. Thanks for reading :)
Very cool Mark. The loneliness and sadness of sleeping alone, parked in a Walmart parking lot is evident. The view of McDonalds as the sunrise is understood.

Geez Mark, you're depressing me....what a bleak read for this overcast Monday. Feel better, and where's that song, waiting on the music to perk up my spirits now! ;-)

When the golden arches are the most pleasing thing around you know you need a change of scenery. I think you've done a great job describing our suburban and urban landscapes topped with stormy skies...it's not always a pretty sight.

Thank you Iceland. I'm glad you saw what I was trying to paint. :)
A lot of deep thoughts in the poem. Hard to have distance from people we need. Make us ponder too many odds things. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
