42 Years Wasn't Enough

42 Years Wasn't Enough

A Poem by Chemical Kitten
"

5 stanzas. Love, Death, Old Age.

"
He whispered in her ear that it was okay to go
And by four am it obvious that she had gone
And the tears slipped down his wrinkled cheeks
And sobs wracked his aging body until dawn

He called the ambulance to come take her away
And he stared down the street in silence as it went
And he stumbled back into their only home
And he wondered if she ever knew how much she meant

He called up the family to tell them the news
And no one was surprised by what he said
And he went back to their only room
And reached his fingers over to her side of the bed

He bought her flowers for the vase on the table
And talked to her all through the night
And he played all of her favorite songs
And when he fell asleep she would turn off the light

He wore a tie to her service at the church
And it was soaked with his tears by the end
And his daughter spoke of her heroic tale
And he wondered when his heart would ever mend

Author's Note

Chemical Kitten
A poem about the death of my Grandmother, which was back in 2010. She died of pancreatic cancer, and left my Grandpa behind after 42 years of marriage. They were inseparable from 18, and he's so lost without her. Would mean a lot of to me if you reviewed.

The theme of this poem was very moving, and I admire you for putting something so personal up for everyone to see. As for the words and structure itself, I would have to say it was a bit wordy, but aside from that it was very will thought out. Wish you the best.

This is very sad. As you can see by my picture, I'm getting up there in age, and I often wonder if it's going to be me first, or my wife . . . . Selfishly is suppose, I hope it's me.

I think most people are selfish that way. After seeing others go through it, I'd say that I am mysel.. read more
This is literally the saddest poem I have ever read or the saddest that was ever written, period.

Never mind the great literature and how awesome the poem is, but what it's written about is just, well it brings tears to my eyes to be honest.

I'm so sorry about her death. This poem is just, I can't even describe.

Thank you so much for sharing this poem to everyone here. It's a great write and so sweet and just everything a great poem should be.

xx
