Little girl

Little girl

A Poem by Ioana Mihai

Glancing at a strong and confident woman
A little girl with big innocent eyes,
Watching into the world at humans
With a pure heart full of love and hopes…
Sharing her dreams, smile and laughter
So easily trusting and giving her hand
To help, to soothe or to amuse the other,
Genuinely caring and loving as ever...
Poor little girl, when will she know
That the world is unfair
And pure love is so rare…
Maybe, when deception will grow,
She will learn that some people are cruel
When her life has been torn into a storm
She would fight, not giving up like a fool,
While remaking the puzzle of humanity
In tears she would say that no one is faulty
Forgiving, keeping an innocent, loving heart
Dreaming and hoping this utopic fantasy
That true, pure hearts still on Earth
And some day deceptions will cease
When she will finally belong
Into a heart and a love as she gives…

This is quite wonderful. I was left wondering at the word choice in the opening line, however. Did you mean "gazing" perhaps? In the old "fairy tales" there is always an evil to beware of. A wolf, a witch, a wicked step-mother or some other vile and destructive force set to the sole purpose of killing or destroying the innocent. I believe those antagonists represent the real evils in the world but are presented in story form as mere imaginary challenges to be conquered by goodness. We must let the children know that real evil exists and that there are certain dangers to be avoided. It's our duty as parents to prepare them for the real world. At the same time, we mustn't let them be cowered by obstacles and irrational fears. It's a tightrope of education, protecting their innocence and exposing them to reality. But I've always found that complete honesty is the best course. That develops trust in the parent/child relationship and shows them the merits of true love against the pitfalls of temptation and trickery. I enjoyed your poem.

I agree so much that "some day deceptions will cease" I love that hopeful line.

The line "the world is unfair" is so true and actually encouraging when thought of it as hoping for a better world amid so much badness.

We don't choose whom we Love... just whom we like. And THAT is the pity!

This poem is beautiful, and honestly hits very close to home as a woman in this unfair world that hates women. The innocence in this girl is palpable, maybe because the reader really sees themselves in her, the innocence and happiness before we find out how deceptive and cruel the world really is. I love the line, ‘she would fight, not giving up like a fool.’ This is all we can really do. Thank you so much for sharing, I loved this piece. (:
