A Poet's Room

A Poet's Room

A Poem by Ishan Sadwelkar

A Poet’s Room

A poet’s room

Is devoid of

Walls, windows

Curtains, shelves

Even a ceiling

There is no commitment throughout

And no promise

Not even cracked partitions

On the changing floor

Maybe some periodic stimulations

Of human seasons

Scenes from the past

Well acted out by himself

Selfless images of ideas

Scattered as sentences

In the weak air around him

A drizzle of papers

And inconsistent blots

Of invisible expressions

People surround him as inspirations

Gods hover above his sleep

A poet’s room

Has no hidden chaos, no lies

No openings and no exits

Only the unseen illusion

Of witnessing the pseudo

And certain well-preserved meanings

Of words and thoughts

To be used again sometime

to describe

His changing room.

Your metaphor of a poets room, full of thoughts, ideas and memories is very interesting to read...makes me think of my own "room" inside my mind and all the ideas and images to be found there. Thank you for sharing.

very interesting, ishan... from your writing, i think you see the world in a unique way, so it fits that your 'poet's room' is mysterious, but unpretentious place. ;) (however, my room - my head - is a mess of insecurities and grammatical mistakes lol...). i love the lines 'a poet’s room/has no hidden chaos, no lies/no openings and no exits/only the unseen illusion/of witnessing the pseudo' -- you do a wonderful job describing a place that isn't real or physical in such understandable terms... and i think your passion and reverence for writing poetry really shines through here :) great job, enjoyed!

Funny the correlation everyone is drawing from this poem to an actual room itself, a physical place, four walls, a floor, a ceiling, maybe a lightbulb... but for me this poem expresses that other room that I spend so much time in as a writer, a poet, a songwriter... it's that room in my head... that room where all ideas cultivate at first... great piece again Ishan! Always a pleasure!

You are one of my favorite poets when it comes to writing about writing. This is very thought-provoking. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep writing!

And so it is, a poets room is depicted as a santuary. A place to soothe ones emotions, a place to be ones self. Nicely done, I liked this piece, it's soothing.

cool piece Ishan. I like it a lot, unfortunately, my room is so clutter with books, guitars, amps, and other knick knack Patty Wack I can hardly move lol, and sometimes I can't find my way out.
