They Don't Love You

They Don't Love You

A Poem by Kelli April
"

A poem about a relationship where one loves the other unconditionally, while the other person does anything and everything they want, no matter the pain it causes their significant other to feel.

"
How can the one you love,
throw it all away,
after all you've been through,
from then until today?
How can the one you love,
continue telling lies,
if they're fully aware,
it leads to your demise?
How does the one you love,
fall asleep at night,
knowing that their words,
cut you like a knife?
How can the one you love,
say that they love you,
then almost simultaneously,
say that they hate you, too?
How many times,
can love conquer all,
if their love for you is kept,
in a constant withdrawal?
How do you decide,
when it is time to let go,
if even through the pain,
your love for them will grow?
Will they ever realize,
the damage that they've done,
if all that matters to them,
is that in the end, they've won?
Maybe your heart will heal,
or maybe it never will,
but even if it does,
your heart will be empty, still.

A very relatable poem! Been here before!

A wise friend once told me that, in a relationship there is always one who must work "like a b*****d" to keep the love together, while the other is always content to cut the strings. From my experience I found his words to be true.

There always IS one who does the hating and the hurting. And the committed one takes the insults and absurdities because they let the heart absorb all the pain for the sake of love. In time however, the heart struggles and then the love withers away.

This is an infinitely truthful and realistic poem. One I am sure many others will read and find themselves nodding their heads to. Nice work, Kelli.

after much pain, we can heal. and yet most often we become so much colder.
