Lonely Grave without a Face

Lonely Grave without a Face

A Poem by JC Fox

Rain against the sentinels of stone
The sky an open gray wound
A black figure stands alone
Bent over a mound of fresh dirt
Barely able to hide their hurt
No stone marks this place
A grave with no face

Just a few adornments lie on the ground
The flowers fading
Crows in the tree are the only sound
A weeping mother mourns for her child
Gunned down execution style
The only grave in this place
A lonely grave with no face

Just a baby of two
She held him
He bled
He turned blue
She cried and screamed
How could God be so mean?

A lonely grave with no face
In this silent sullen place

There will be no stone to mark this spot

No one will know
A senseless tragedy all for not

They had no money
They had no drugs
The men just came
They just wanted blood
They killed her husband
They killed her boy
The mother wept there was no more joy

A lonely grave without a face
A grieving mother without a trace
She turns to leave her son so still
Weeping and questioning God’s will

Very nice write, your repetition and rhyme worked very well. Your ability to create scenery made this piece very profound and striking, and I think the font added an extra touch as well. Brilliant as always.

I liked the repeating usage of "A lonely grave without a face"
That mixed with your awesome descriptive style
made this an outstanding write

That is the harsh reality of living in an area where things like this happen

Stunning visuals you catch the grief and mindless violence of how the child ended up in the grave

Such a sad write, painting the picture of the mother standing there cursing the world for taking her child in a random crime. The image of the grave without a stone, it breaks your heart.

As sad as this is, the image of a grave without a face is compelling. The story in your poem, and the way you've crafted it, makes me wonder about all the other graves that are unknown. And what of those for whom there are no graves? Lots to ponder on from this ....

Well done!
