Why do I write?

Why do I write?

A Poem by Jerald Infant Jeyarethinam
"

Dead Poetry

"

I wear the invisible cloak
walking alone in a crowd

Hearing cries among laughter
listening to the whispers that slaughter

Immersed in darkness beneath the sun
with a life that has been anything but fun

I am a man of regrets
with a memory that never forgets

Locking the emotions within my heart with a key

So that nobody can see

Rather than live a life of a lie
I would rather bury myself and die

Where am I going?
Without any knowing

Thinking

Am I wrong?
To think that I am strong
Am I cursed?

Infecting everyone who are blessed

A bottle full of sorrow and pain, I fill

the only thing that keeps me going is my sheer will

Seeking an opportunity to grieve unalone

A melody that will change my tone

Why do I write?
Is it because I couldn't fight?

Or

Is this how I show my might?

Author's Note

Jerald Infant Jeyarethinam
'Dead Poetry' is a term which I've coined by myself. It is the kind of poetry written by a person who has zero desire to exist in this world, yet find something that keeps him going till the very end, which he can't comprehend.

These are wonderful questions that dig at the heart, not just of writing, but of existence. I ask myself every day what the point of life is. Am I only carrying on because others need me and force me to continue? Or is there some other compulsion? You mention locking up your emotions and infecting the blessed, but writing is unlocking them, not living the life of a lie anymore - and maybe people need to be reminded that there is more to life than their moments of pleasure, bigger questions that need answered before the world can get better. This is a great poem that really made me think - and feel.

The last three lines are more than just thought provoking. I love how you use words to make a contrast to each other but make so much sense !
It's cool that you would coin the phrase dead poetry. Given the explanation, I dig to know how a poet who has no wish to exist would doubt missing a fight or showing might ?
I would love to hear what you make of my question .
Nice reading you.

Thanks dayran
I like the look and feel of this these lines scream out to me and are definitely hears

I am a man of regrets
with a memory that never forgets ....this could be a good and bad thing

Am I wrong?
To think that I am strong ....fallacy in thought as one ponders their greatness against a backdrop of visible and invisible flaws and scars

Where am I going?
Without any knowing .....like the journey of a broken arrow and a blind nomad

Am I cursed?
Infecting everyone who are blessed..brilliant metaphor here....ad lies poison the truth, hate contaminates love

the questions at the end was like choosing between two extremes...very well done
