National Driver

National Driver

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

He drives...
... a long way...
... alone...

He thinks of his past
a year for every mile
a good memory for every town
a bad memory for every city
a sad memory for every state

Many pass him by
not knowing who he is
not caring who he was

Never speaking to a soul
he just nods and goes about his business
all thoughts are never about today
just about his history

Every song he listens to
takes him home
takes him to his beloved
who is waiting for him

All he's got to do
is just get from point a
to point b

She prays all night
praying that he gets home safe

He drives and drives
all night and day
just making his way
back into her arms.

Now this one I can see as being a song... That lonely heart trying desperately to get back to the one which makes him feel whole. I can see her standing just inside the window...peering through the blinds..coffee or tea cup in palm..just waiting for that pair of headlights to turn up the driveway. She is just as sad as he... (lost there for a minute..sorry) This is a story/poem that one CAN become lost in very easily...continuing the story onward because he isn't home yet. Longing..love... life. Thank you for the RR :)
