Lovers Alike

Lovers Alike

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

She always said I've got a weird thing

something that seems familiar

she couldn't really put it on her finger

so I thought and said...

'Girl we're like twins

identical in heart, spirit, mind

we're like clones with different faults

we're like treasure in hidden vaults'

'Girl, you're crazy, I'm crazy

you love roses, I love them too

you and your truck turn me on

and I know me and mine get you'

She laughed and hugged me

said I was right on the dime

and she was thinking the same thing

She said,'boy I love you

you love me too

we love each other

and dream of one another'

'Boy, you sure turn me on

your 7.3 wets my britches

when you throw it park

or in 4 wheels, man I

can't think without glitches'

'You're what I think about

all day and all night

I can't stop feeling you

holding my so tight'

'We're like eagles flying high

wing to wing, together

we're like forbidden gold

the truth has been told'

I smiled and tucked her in

she snuggled my shoulder

and I said,

'Girl, I love you

like fish love water

I love you

like the birds love the air

and I love how we

are so much alike'

Hi! I thought this was an excellent poem. I agree with Anne - this could be an awesome song! Either way, I like it. You're a talented writer, and I hope you know that! Just a tip that I learned in my poetry class: if you cut out words like "and," "the," "but," etc, it really tightens the poem and makes it sound more professional! :)

This should be a song! I really liked this one. It flowed very well, and I liked the story that you told! Great work :D
