Endless Night

Endless Night

A Poem by JLMatthews

My heart pounds

There are no other sounds

Does this darkness know no bounds

I walk through this endless night

Wish for the return of my sight

Will I never find the light

I cannot seem to find my way

Nowhere safe to rest, to lay

Will I never see the dawn of day

Screams reach my ears

And bring a fresh round of tears

I was wrong to ignore my fears

Cold hits me like a knife

Finally an end to my strife

The dark itself has claimed my life

A hand strokes my hair

My breath comes in deep sighs

It was just a nightmare

I open my eyes

My body still shakes from fright

I find no light

I still haven’t escaped this endless night

I am sorry that I can find nothing to critique here, I would if I could. This is an exceptional write - like all of your poems that I have read. You capture your emotions into thoughts onto the page with a deft pen.
