Death

Death

A Poem by Jack Jackson

I spoke with Death
She asked if I was ready
She would take my pain away

I said I was doing fine
She said it was okay
There is no need to fear Death
Even in the last breath
For a mortals life is short
The end is near

My time almost done
No longer being able to see the sun
Living not living
See Death upon a tree
Beckoning me hither

this reminds me of the way Emily Dickinson looked at death in some of her poems...especially "because i could not stop for death"
not as a menacing grim reaper, but more as a gentleman caller...or in this case a female caller trying to assuage the fear.
