Ode to Death

Ode to Death

A Poem by Jack Jackson
"

Read it and please, comment on what you, as reader, feels during this.

"
My splendid death, you inspire me to write.
I love the way you look, walk and frighten,
Invading my mind day and through the night,
Always dreaming about the weird write-in.

Let me compare you to an eared clover?
You are more awful and more impatient.
Mean storms whip the twiglets of October,
And autumntime has the short outpatient.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love your glorious arms, smile and eyes.
Thinking of your solid smile fills my days.
My love for you is the good compromise.

Now I must away with a lawful heart,
Remember my sound words whilst we're apart.

Obviously I get the tip of the hat to Shakespeare in this sonnet, but the mood is quite different from that of the original. Teenagers often seem to be obsessed with the thought of death. I remember going through such a phase myself, many years ago! As you age a few years, I think you'll probably grow out of it, and think more about living, and the joys of life. These are the only thoughts I can offer really, except to say that our old poems are worth keeping to look back upon, to remind us where we were at a given point in time. Keep writing!
