I Never Write Poetry

I Never Write Poetry

A Poem by Phoenix
"

I really don't - ever. And yet, I'm writing poems and showing old ones that I had thought happily would never again see the light of day. And now I'm ironically writing a poem about not writing poems...

"

I never write poetry.

Though your words do flatter me,

I never really have the drive,

Even when I tend to strive

To get things out there,

All the things I need to share...

All those things I've carried

That have long since been buried.

I've already written a thousand words,

Even though the pen has not heard.

I never write poems.

Only when my insides spill over,

And my heart runs for cover.

But as I continue to rhyme,

I realize that didn't happen this time.

I'm not sure what this is about -

All the words are just coming out.

Who knocked down the floodgate?

Not me, I was too late.

Whoever it was, I thank you -

You did what I could not do.

I think I'm free now, and can hardly believe it,

It's just too bad only the paper's here to see it.

A little sloppy perhaps, but, hey - I never write poetry.

I never write poetry, either. There's quite a few of us. Seriously, I was 32 before I found my words. Before that I found myself in the words of others poetry. Letting loose a string of words is an amazing thing. I liked this very much.

My favorite line, "Only when my insides spill over", is the very reason I write poetry. Great poem for someone who never writes poetry.

lol That didn't seem very sloppy to me! You definitely got your point across, though: So, you don't write poetry, but this poem tells us, the readers, that you sure as hell know how to write it! That's the point to writing poetry, or any literature, for that matter! Getting your message to the reader. ^^

You did an excellent job with rhyming. Everything seemed to flow, in my opinion. It was nice and easy, simple and understanding. The blank tone to it seemed to give off an empathetic feeling to the reader, as if you don't really care for your talent at writing poetry. An interesting tone. :)

Great job, Phoenix!

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood (aka Jasmine)
