A Poem by Jake Staffeld

We are the weak
The downtrodden
Those that live
Only for today
We have no
Patron saints
But we go on

You are seperate
But the same
As all of us
That lay here
In deepest despair
We trudge on

Watch the smoky sun
Reminding us
We have lost
We are finished
That is what we believe
Marching to the end

A silent city
Now burned
We watch with
Tears for all
Nothing else left
Turn away now
Run the young away

We are the defeated
But not the dead
The wounded
But not the sympathetic
And as the dark day goes on
We will walk away from this
And find a new place to be
New and alive

A poem with true statements. A lot of people are down and out with little hope. I did like the positive ending. Where is the new and alive place? A excellent poem.
