I see you, lined up in a row, no destination, nowhere to go. You sit on the bus, on the subway or train; on a chair in the office against a giant window pane. In lines at the grocery you aimlessly stand staring at something held in your hand. At parties, you can’t function, socialization is dead. Your dominant feature - the top of your head. Oblivious to everything, the world as a whole. But who gives a damn that’s how we scroll.
This is a truly brilliant statement about today's world. The title is totally catching & memorable. The top of the head being what's presented to the world -- that's so imaginatively stated. When I lived in town & walked my dogs daily, singing to them as we went, young kids in the park would rush over to pet my dogs & jabber to me endlessly becuz I would listen & the parent was sitting on bench glued to a phone.
I'm happy to say I've never had a cell phone at the ripe age of almost 60 now. And I left the anonymity of the constant queues of life when I holed up in the hills 5 years ago. But all those other years are still deeply embedded in my memory of how life can be. You've described the sensations of going thru life as nothing but a cog in some anonymous wheel we seem to take no interest in how it goes.
This is the kind of everyday life observation that's brilliant becuz you thought to write about it, & it's so well done becuz you're not doing so with a scornful tone, but just a sad resignation.

I just had to stop by before logging off for a while. I'm so glad I did! This is great!
Especially love the line :
"Your dominant feature -
the top of your head."
This is so true (and sad) ...personal human interaction is disappearing...what happened to conversation?!
You have written it here in such a way that the message comes over loud and clear! :)
Great title, too!
