Wars and Birds

Wars and Birds

A Poem by James Wells

Typically I would be more blunt

So to say I love you would be a cheap

Lie.

But instead I would go on further

And talk about the way the wind

Sings.

To explain more and more

About the birds that sit perched

Together.

And maybe I would tell you stories

About kings and queens in far off

Kingdoms.

They’d wage wars to get each other.

The way I’d wage wars against.

Everyone.

Or I’d mention the way the sun

Can make water and fire live

Eternally.

Typically I would be more blunt.

So to say I love you would just be

Cheap.

This is really surprising and cool--like the ending.
