The Verdict

The Verdict

A Poem by Loretta
"

An Italian sonnet.

"

Block out the peripheral, cup your eyes.
Or close them tight as you fall to your knees.
Pray for salvation till the Jury’s pleased.
Life on trial for eternal paradise.

On His Honor, perched high, your fate relies.
He creates war, though he once promised peace.
Blames us for sin but He put it in trees.
Grinning and reveling in our demise.

Forever faithful, you are innocent.
Without a single witness, you grow old.
Fixed on uncertain afterlife instead

of focusing upon the given moment.
To God or Satan has your soul been sold?
Final verdict falls – you’re already dead.

simple. persuavily powerful with some deep imagery sprinkled throughout.
your voice shines through the dreary style and you create a unique style for the piece.
well done.

We have all known people who devote their entire lives to religion. They feel that life is just a trial to weather in order to reap the ultimate reward of heaven. Or they fear that one misstep will land them in hell. You conveyed this very well.

Heinlein said some good stuff regarding religion, "of course the game is rigged but if you don't play you can't win" and "religion is the refuge of the weak minded, those who can't face the unknowable alone and need guidance"

i tend to agree with him =p
