Another landmark; One more step taken Seconds added to the ride-- No longer in tandem-- Training wheels off, I give one last push knowing that my guiding hand is no longer needed.
A change of duty To occasional coach, Giving warning Of ruts and rocks ahead. Our paths a divergent meandering, Intersecting instead of coinciding, On your chosen course.
Fly along the winds Toward your passion Don't look back. Don't slow down. I'll be right where I've always been-- Watching over-- Cheering you on to the next landmark.
Yes this is another Mom write, and probably my most recent one so a slightly different style than the others. Perhaps a new on is in the offing soon or I wouldn't be looking at them so often.

I feel your teary-eyed sadness and I feel your joyful pride. Because children grow up so fast and before you know it, they have children of their own, and they don't live with you anymore and you don't hear from them every day. But it is our duty as mothers to give birth, nurture our children, teach them valuable lessons that will be their reference points to guide them in life, and to set them free when they are mature enough. I have yet to have children of my own, but I felt this deeply with every cell in my body.

My sister is just as beautiful as you are, Momma! I'm learning these things as well, being a "step mother" (in quotes because we aren't married so I'm not officially their step mother yet, we just all say that I am) has taught me a lot about teaching, raising, and learning to let them make their own mistakes. I can't quite relate because I didn't raise them from birth and the oldest is only 13, but I'm getting there. Thanks for sharing this with me Momma! LOVE YOUUUU!!!!!

There are many elements to this from graduating and moving on and your teaching and mentoring, but then there is the, you can reach your goals and I am here to help. Very nice work that shows your compassion and enthusiasm to show the path to success, but it is time for you to step back.
I see the element of leaving the nest and taking flight the first time and the challenges. Nice work and thank you for sharing.

Excellent write. I enjoy a lot of the varied work you put out. So ok, this is a "mom" poem. So what? It is relevant to who you are. I like the ending an beginning with the title. I wouldn't change it. CD

Jan, I love your "mom" poems. This one as your others is so wise. My favorite line is "I give one last push". Such landmarks can indeed be re-births, both for the child who takes flight into a new phase and the mother who stands watching in amazement. I also like the line "our paths a divergent meandering." I hesitate to write the following bec I know zilch about poetry, but I wonder if the poem would be stronger if the images were consistent OR show more clearly a progression. So, what I mean is: images that move from crawling to walking to running to driving(?) to flying OR if you choose one such as flying and maintain it. Now since I'm not a poet and you are, please feel free to label all of that as an idea destined for the trash bin. By the way, congratulations. Every graduation is a great achievement for parents as well as grads. Taylor

I write quite a few for my kids, especially this daughter who is so big-hearted and since I give them to her, I try to change them up a bit or it would be same song another verse. I kept a diary for my daughter, unbeknownst to her, from the time I was pregnant with her until she was pregnant with her daughter and then gave it to her. It was almost a daily account and though I wish the writing were better, it still contains stories about all the tiny milestones that we've all forgotten and I think she views it as a real treasure. I am doing the same for my three-year-old granddaughter. Nothing like these girls as they grow into fine women.
