Looking Back at Death

Looking Back at Death

A Poem by Jeff

I thought I saw the ending

I thought it might be over

I thought I wrote my final chapter

I thought my time on this planet

Was coming to an end

I never knew such fear

I never knew such uncertainty

I never knew I'd be facing death

I never knew so little

When I knew so much

I believed in Heaven

I believed in Hell

I believed in God

I believed in karma

I never believed

I deserved this punishment

I felt my body break down

I felt my hair fall out

I felt my emotions warp

I felt my youth slip away

I felt my careless days

Fade into the past

I never knew what life

Could be like

Looking back at death

Feeling the air

In my lungs

Never felt so good
